Meet The Artist Evening – Watercolour Artist, Kirstie Trobe

The Gallery has the pleasure to announce its July Meet the Artist Evening

Meet the Artist Evening with Watercolour Artist and Art Tutor Kirstie Trobe, on Friday 29th July from 5pm till 8pm at The Gallery, High Street, Pershore, WR10 1EU.

Meet the Artist – Kirstie Trobe

Kirstie is a Worcestershire based fine artist and art tutor, producing not just beautiful original artwork and undertaking private commissions, but classes and workshops too.

She has works represented at the Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London and has been selected twice as a finalist in the Broadway Arts Festival, as well as a very popular feature in the annual Worcestershire Open Studios Event (20th – 29th August 2022).

“I work primarily in watercolour, mainly from photographs (animals and children make poor sitters), and occasionally in pastel. However, underlying any work is the basic fundamental, drawing. It’s something that should be practised regularly so I feel very privileged to be able to transfer this skill from my drawing demonstrations in my art classes to a finished painting.” – Kirstie Trobe

The Gallery is pleased to announce that it’ll be open on Sunday 12th June from 11am till 4pm in support of the 2022 Pershore Open Gardens. This is in addition to its normal Saturday 10am till 6pm hours.

Pershore Gardens

Most years about twenty gardens open in Pershore. This small town has been opening gardens as part of the NGS for 50 years, almost continuously. In those days the open gardens were in the Georgian heart of the town but now, gardens open from all over the town. Some gardens are surprisingly large, well over an acre, while others are courtyard gardens. All have their individual appeal and present great variety. The wealth of pubs, restaurants and cafes offer ample opportunities for refreshment while the Abbey and the River Avon are some of the many points of interest in this market town. Tickets, which take the form of a map and garden descriptions, are valid for both days. They can be purchased a week before the event at ‘Blue’ in Broad Street or at the Town Hall. On the weekend they can be bought at Number 8 Community Arts Centre in the High Street and any open garden.

Gardens are open all over the town including Bridge street B4084, Broad Street, Newlands, Defford Road, Station road, Cherry Orchard, Priest Lane & Hunter Rise (off Three Springs Road).

Admission: Adult: £7.50, Child: Free

An experience you won’t forget

With the three towns of Droitwich Spa, Evesham and Pershore together with nearly 100 villages and hamlets including the beautiful Broadway, visitors can be forgiven for not having explored all the year-round wonders available to them. It’s an area of sheer diversity; not only in its surroundings, but also with its offering meaning it’s a perfect visitor destination.

Whether it’s the award-winning idyllic parks set within close proximity to the wonderfully characteristic towns, or the high streets boasting an array of independent shops offering a unique shopping experience; the escape from the hustle and bustle of major cities is one to be cherished and enjoyed.

The rural nature of the district makes it an ideal setting for walkers and cyclists alike, whilst the area being a horticultural haven makes local food and drink produce a ‘must taste’ experience. Waterways lovers will be spoilt for choice with the River Avon meandering through Evesham and Pershore, and with the canal in Droitwich Spa, boat trips on the water are a must for a relaxing time.

A visit to Worcestershire’s Vale & Spa this Christmas will be an experience you won’t forget, and hopefully one that will make you want to return again and again!

Meet Acrylic Artist Di Shorleson

Friday 26th November 6pm to 8.30pm at The Gallery, 51 High Street, Pershore, WR10 1EU

Artist Di Shorleson

Inspiration for her landscapes comes from having lived in some of the UK’s most fabulous places. Formby in the North West; with its endless natural unspoilt beach and coastline; Sussex with some of the prettiest villages and sea views; and more recently, moving to the beautiful Worcestershire countryside bordering on the Cotswolds.

Di has painted for many years, developing her style along the way and she really enjoys the balance between chaos and control, and many a happy accident! Di absolutely adores texture and drama in atmospheric landscapes and enjoys capturing them in acrylics, watercolours, inks and sometimes a combination of these. The unpredictability of these mediums and the luminosity of her finished pieces create an interesting dynamic, producing experimental and expressive pieces of work.

Perhaps more importantly I love having fun with my materials and lose myself in the pleasure of creating a special piece of art that ultimately collectors will love and treasure.

Article by Worcestershire’s Vale and Spa on Gallery Opening

Internationally renowned artist opens gallery in Pershore

“Running a gallery has always been a lifelong ambition of mine.”

Now an internationally renowned artist, Jilly Oxlade-Arnott’s latest venture is The Gallery. A bold, new art gallery in Pershore showcasing her extensive collections and works from guest artists.

When Jilly was a little girl she was keen to draw anything and everything, always asking her parents “what can I paint next?”. In her youth, she enjoyed drawing birds of prey and flowers, and was pestered by her friends to do their art homework for them. Birds and flowers turned into life drawing when she discovered her love for watercolour in her teens and decided to study technical drawing at college.

After college Jilly naturally moved into marketing where she had a successful and creative career working in graphic and web design and photography. In her spare time, she pursued her passion for art. Her first commission was her mother in law’s house which kickstarted her career as a professional artist and led her to she set up Architectural Impressions.

“My love of architecture came from my father who was an architect, and studying technical drawing helped give me perspective and attention to detail when I started painting buildings. The angles come naturally to me and I never use a ruler in my compositions.

“My favourite thing to paint is people’s houses because it’s so intimate, but I’ve been asked to paint a range of things over the years. Public houses, animals – I’ve done the lot! I often get asked to create property development boards to demonstrate what a property will look like and how it will blend into its surroundings. People will send me 2D plans, bricks and other snippets of materials and I put it all together like a jigsaw. Those projects are always fun and challenging!

“In 2018, I was selected to paint a giraffe for Worcester Stands Tall. Last year marked 125 years of the National Trust so I made them a new collection comprising of 24 of their properties, and I currently have an exhibition in Croome where 60 of my original pieces are displayed in its library.

“Back then I was working on our dining room table. Since moving to Pershore I’ve set up a dedicated studio in our home, where I’ll soon be running beginners and intermediate watercolour classes,” she said.

Fast forward to two months ago and Jilly and her husband Chris were ready to open The Gallery, Pershore’s new, bold and expressive art gallery.

“Running a gallery has always been a lifelong ambition of mine so when we found this space, we jumped at it. We met with the landlord in June and opened in July! Chris has been busy fitting it out – he’s great at getting in my head and making my designs a reality – while I’ve been sourcing and creating art to stock.”

At The Gallery, visitors can view Jilly’s extensive collections and take in work by 25 guest artists which rotate regularly providing something new to discover with every visit. Pastels, watercolour, glassware, ceramics, jewellery, and photography from Wyre-Piddle-based photographer Nigel Wood are just some of the things that can be found inside The Gallery.

“We aim to showcase work from three Pershore-based artists every rotation, but we also display art from wider Worcestershire and further afield. We currently have porcelain from Lisbon on display. Some pieces are from very well-established artists (both locally and nationally) and some are from new emerging talents. It’s wonderful because I can sit here painting and be inspired by the colourful artwork that surrounds me.”

Jilly and Chris plan to hold ‘meet the artist’ evenings where visitors can socialise with a cup of coffee (or glass of wine!), explore what’s in store and ask questions about their creative processes.

“We’re big on entertaining people and want them to enjoy their experience at The Gallery. So far, everybody has left us feeling happier and that’s partly down to The Gallery’s bright interior. We have so many different artists’ works here and what ties them all together is colour. We’re a joyful, colourful space celebrating art and we hope to build a community and platform for local artists.”

Jilly and Chris have access to a community of artists and because of this they can order things in if somebody asks for something that isn’t on display.

“We don’t work on high commissions, our philosophy is about getting a good price for the customer and the artist. Pieces range from £20 to £600 so should accommodate every budget. We’re open from Wednesday to Sunday.”

If you pop in, keep an eye out for ‘The Gallery Man’, Jilly and Chris’ pink mascot.
